This heat sealing tip and photos were provided by Amanda O'Donal of PreciousBeginningsLLC.com. Credit where credit is due! Many thanks to Amanda for helping to enlarge our collection of FREE bow instructions.

Although many people use Dritz Fray Check to seal the ends of their ribbons, others choose to use heat, in the form of a lighter or a wood burning tool. Amanda shares with us her technique for safe, accurate use of a wood burning tool by preparing a gridded, glass workspace.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Print out this PDF file to use as a grid under your glass surface.

Purchase an 8"x10" picture frame from any dollar store, the frame style is not important as you are only going to use the glass. Remove the glass and apply masking or painters tape around the edges for safety.

Simply lay the glass over the printed grid.

By laying your ribbon against the glass, you have a safe surface to use a wood burning tool on to cut and seal your ribbon ends all in one sweep. The grid can be marked with common lengths you use.
