The Tails Down Bow design and photos were provided by Ann Whisler of Creative Works By Ann. Many thanks for helping to enlarge our collection of FREE bow instructions. Additional examples have been provided by Kren of S-n-K Creations.

-- Ribbon of choice. Can be made with any size ribbon. Ribbon shown is 1/5" wide in emerald color.
-- Needle and thread

Step-by-Step Instructions

Lay ribbon out and decide how long you would like the tails to be. Pick up the ribbon at the length you decide.

**Please note, ribbon has not been cut off roll.

Fold the top left loop as shown. Adjust size as desired.
Fold lower right loop by folding ribbon at a 90 degree angle to the tail. It does not need to be exact.
Fold the lower left bow by taking ribbon and folding toward the back, holding to previous ribbon layers at center.
The top right bow can now be formed by bringing the ribbon up and over to the front, positioning it at a slight angle to keep it from drooping down onto the lower loop.
Using needle and thread (my choice for more control), weave needle through bow center as shown. For a 1 1/2" wide ribbon you should have 3 "peaks" on top or your center will be thick. Needle should begin and end on top of the ribbon. Do not pull the needle through yet.
Gather center of bow while needle is still through ribbon. I find it easier to adjust the gathered center this way and am able to have a good grip to keep it from coming out while the center is sewn.
Wind the thread around the center and tie off with a knot on the back of the center of the bow, this will keep it hidden against any clip or headband you use.
Now you can attach to clip or pony-O of choice and add your desired center! Congratulations!
